Why it matters
CTET Paper I qualification is a mandatory eligibility requirement for primary-level teaching positions in central government schools (KVS, NVS) and is accepted by many state governments as an alternative to state-level TET exams. The exam's emphasis on pedagogy over raw subject knowledge often surprises candidates who assume strong subject command alone is sufficient — CDP alone carries the same section weight as any content subject, and even the content sections (Language, Maths, EVS) are tested through a "how would you teach this" lens, not a "do you know this" lens.

CDP — the section that trips up subject-strong candidates
Child Development and Pedagogy tests developmental psychology (Piaget, Vygotsky, Kohlberg's stage theories), learning and teaching principles, and — increasingly emphasized in recent CTET cycles — inclusive education concepts (understanding and accommodating diverse learners, including children with learning difficulties, and moving away from a purely "deficit" framing of disability toward an inclusive-classroom model). This section can't be crammed the way factual content sections can — it requires genuinely understanding why a given pedagogical approach works for a given developmental stage, since CTET questions frequently present classroom scenarios requiring applied judgment rather than definition recall.
