Physics in NEET carries 180 marks out of 720 total. While Biology is the most important subject (360 marks), Physics often determines the difference between getting into top medical colleges and settling for less.
Many NEET aspirants — especially those with a biology background — find Physics challenging. However, with the right strategy, Physics can be made scoring.
What Makes NEET Physics Different
NEET PHYSICS vs JEE PHYSICS:
NEET: NCERT level concepts | mostly formula application
JEE: deep concept application | multi-step complex problems
NEET physics is accessible if you:
Master NCERT theory completely
Learn key formulas and when to apply them
Practice previous year questions (40-50% questions repeat patterns)
Focus on conceptual understanding, not complex derivations
MOST IMPORTANT CHAPTERS (by marks):
Modern Physics: 5-8 questions — highly predictable, formula-based
Optics (Ray + Wave): 5-7 questions — sign convention mastery needed
Current Electricity: 4-5 questions — Kirchhoff and formulas
Thermodynamics: 3-4 questions — conceptual + formula
Mechanics: 8-10 questions spread across chapters
LEAST TIME-EFFICIENT (high effort, fewer marks):
Rotational mechanics (limited in NEET)
Electromagnetic induction advanced concepts
Focus time proportional to marks available
