SSC Exams β Combined Graduate Level (CGL) and Other Exams
Before you start: no prior background needed β this covers the SSC exam landscape from the structure up.
Why This Section Exists Separately
Most SSC aspirants start memorizing formulas and vocabulary without first understanding how the exam is actually structured β and get blindsided by things the syllabus itself never warns about, like Tier 1's strict per-section time lock, or the fact that Tier 1 doesn't count toward final rank at all. Understanding the real exam architecture before studying changes how you prepare, not just what you study.
Analogy β Think of SSC's tier structure like a resume screen followed by a real interview. Tier 1 only decides whether you get through the door β the score itself doesn't carry into your final standing. Tier 2 is where you're actually ranked. Someone who barely clears Tier 1 but performs strongly in Tier 2 outranks someone who topped Tier 1 but did poorly in Tier 2.
Try it (2 minutes) β Reason through why SSC locks each Tier 1 section to a strict time window instead of letting you freely allocate time across all sections: if time could move freely, a candidate strong in one section could "buy" time for a weak section, lowering the real bar there. A strict per-section lock forces every candidate to show a genuine minimum in each section independently.
