UPSC Mains — Overview
What is UPSC Mains?
UPSC Civil Services Mains is the second stage of India's most prestigious exam — the Civil Services Examination (CSE). It qualifies candidates for IAS (Indian Administrative Service), IPS (Indian Police Service), IFS (Indian Foreign Service), and other Group A/B central services.

Answer Writing Strategy
Unlike Prelims, Mains tests your ability to articulate — both knowledge AND expression matter.
Key rules:
1.Structure — Introduction (1 para) → Body (3-5 paras) → Conclusion
2.Headings and subheadings — examiners appreciate organized answers
3.Data and examples — schemes, committees, constitutional provisions, international comparisons
4.Diagrams — flowcharts and maps where relevant
5.Word limit — 10-mark questions: 150 words; 15-mark: 200 words; 20-mark: 250 words
