Overview of Banking Examinations

MAJOR BANKING EXAMS IN INDIA:
  IBPS PO: Institute of Banking Personnel Selection — Probationary Officers
  IBPS Clerk: Clerical cadre recruitment for 11 public sector banks
  SBI PO: State Bank of India Probationary Officers
  SBI Clerk: State Bank of India Junior Associates
  RBI Grade B: Reserve Bank of India Grade B Officers (tough, prestigious)
  RBI Assistant: RBI support staff
  NABARD Grade A: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development
  IDBI Bank: Industrial Development Bank of India

EXAM STAGES:
  IBPS PO / SBI PO: Prelims → Mains → Interview
  IBPS Clerk / SBI Clerk: Prelims → Mains (no interview)
  RBI Grade B: Prelims → Mains Phase I → Mains Phase II → Interview

ELIGIBILITY (IBPS/SBI PO):
  Education: graduation in any discipline
  Age: 20-30 years (relaxation: +3 OBC, +5 SC/ST)
  Computer literacy: basic

Prelims Pattern (IBPS/SBI PO)

3 SECTIONS, 100 QUESTIONS, 60 MINUTES:
  English Language: 30 questions, 30 marks, 20 minutes
  Quantitative Aptitude: 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes
  Reasoning Ability: 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes

NEGATIVE MARKING: 0.25 marks per wrong answer

ENGLISH TOPICS (prelims level):
  Reading comprehension (1 passage, 5-7 questions)
  Error spotting (grammar errors in sentences)
  Fill in the blanks (single and double blanks)
  Para jumbles (rearrange 5 sentences)
  Sentence improvement / correction

QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE:
  Simplification / Approximation (5-8 questions — easiest, do first)
  Number series (5 questions)
  Data interpretation (1 set, 5 questions)
  Arithmetic: percentage, ratio, profit/loss, time/work, SI/CI

REASONING:
  Puzzles and seating arrangement (most important — 10-15 questions)
  Inequality: A>B≥C — find relationship between non-adjacent
  Syllogism: all/some/no statements — valid conclusions
  Coding-decoding
  Blood relations and direction sense
