MAINS vs PRELIMS DIFFERENCE:
Prelims: simple individual questions
Mains: complex sets (DI sets, complex puzzles, new pattern English)
Computer knowledge: added in Mains (20 marks in reasoning section)
Banking awareness: tested only in Mains (not Prelims)Banking and Financial Awareness

Central bank: Reserve Bank of India (established 1935)
Public sector banks: SBI + 11 nationalised banks (nationalised 1969, 1980)

Regional Rural Banks (RRBs): sponsored by public sector banks, serve rural areas

KEY BANKING CONCEPTS:
KYC (Know Your Customer): identity verification — PAN, Aadhaar, passport
AML (Anti-Money Laundering): PMLA 2002, STR reporting to FIU
NEFT: batch settlement (half-hourly), no transaction limit
RTGS: real-time, minimum Rs.2 lakh, for large transactions
IMPS: instant, 24x7, up to Rs.5 lakh per transaction
UPI: real-time, linked to bank account, PhonePe/GooglePay/BHIM
NACH: automated clearing for ECS — salary, EMI, dividends
PRIORITY SECTOR LENDING:
Banks must lend 40% to priority sector
Components: agriculture (18%), MSME, education, housing, export
PSL certificates: traded if targets not met directly

Repo rate and CRR — changes frequently, always verify current figures
New banks licensed: track RBI announcements
