About Indian Railways Recruitment
Indian Railways is one of the world's largest railway networks and one of the largest employers in India. RRB NTPC is conducted to fill Non-Technical Popular Category posts across all railway zones.
Eligibility
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:
Group B posts (Station Master, Goods Guard): bachelor's degree
Group C posts (Clerk, Typist): 12th pass (intermediate)
Age: 18-33 years for most posts (18-30 for some)
Relaxation: +2 OBC | +5 SC/ST | +10 PwD
Medical: different medical standards for different posts
A1/B1/C1/D: vision standards | Must pass medical examination
PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
Some posts (Station Master, Goods Guard) require specific vision standards
Colour blindness disqualifies from certain posts
Always check specific post requirements before applying
Application Process
NOTIFICATION: released at rrbcdg.gov.in (Ministry of Railways)
All 21 RRBs release simultaneously
Choose your preferred RRB (based on state/language preference)
APPLICATION FEE:
General/OBC/EWS: Rs.500 (Rs.400 refunded after appearing in CBT1)
SC/ST/PwD/Women: Rs.250 (fully refunded after appearing in CBT1)
DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS:
10th and 12th marksheets + certificates
Degree certificate (for Group B)
Caste certificate (if applicable)
Aadhaar and photo ID
Career Progression
AFTER JOINING:
Training: 6-12 months departmental training
Probation: 2 years
Promotion: seniority-based with departmental exams
Junior → Senior → Supervisor → Gazetted Officer
GRADE PAY PROGRESSION:
Group C start: Rs.19,900-29,200
After 10-15 years: Rs.35,000-55,000
Senior officer level: Rs.60,000-80,000+
TRANSFERS: mandatory transfer policy — postings across zones
SENIORITY: zone-based, cadre-based — matters for promotion
BEST POSTS (stability + pay + work-life balance):
Station Master: supervisory, good allowances
Goods Guard: field work with good pay, travel allowance
Commercial cum Ticket Clerk: station-based, regular hours
