UPSC Prelims Intermediate Preparation

Subject-wise Study Approach

HISTORY STUDY METHOD:
  Start: NCERT 6,7,8 (ancient+medieval), NCERT 10,11,12 (modern)
  Then: Spectrum Modern History by Rajiv Ahir (modern India)
  Art and Culture: NCERT Fine Arts + Nitin Singhania (optional but helpful)
  Focus: causes, consequences, significant personalities, dates of key events
  Practice: previous year topic-wise questions (2011-2024)

GEOGRAPHY STUDY METHOD:
  Start: NCERT 11 (Fundamentals of Physical Geography) + NCERT 12 (India)
  Physical: landforms, climate, drainage, natural vegetation
  India: agriculture (crops and conditions), minerals, industries, transport
  World: major countries geography, international boundaries, water bodies
  Map work: mark all national parks, rivers, states, important cities
  Focus: linkage questions (which river, which state, which product)

POLITY STUDY METHOD:
  Read: M. Laxmikant Indian Polity (complete, do not skip chapters)
  Constitution: Part III, IV, IV-A, VI, XI, XIV, XV, XVIII specially
  Recent: constitutional amendments, Supreme Court judgments
  Committees: Parliamentary, Constitutional, Statutory, Regulatory bodies
  
ECONOMY STUDY METHOD:
  Start: NCERT 11-12 Economics
  Then: Economic Survey summary (easy language by coaching institutes)
  Budget: understand key budget terms and numbers
  Current: RBI monthly bulletin, finance ministry press releases
  Focus: conceptual understanding over data memorization

Monthly Study Schedule

MONTH 1-2: NCERT foundation
  Complete all NCERTs: History (6-12), Geography (6-12), Polity (9,11), Economy (10-12)
  Make short notes (2-3 pages per book)
  Do NOT refer standard books yet

MONTH 3-4: Standard books
  Laxmikant Polity (complete)
  Spectrum Modern History
  Geography: Majid Husain / GC Leong for physical geography
  Economy: Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh (selected chapters)

MONTH 5-6: Current Affairs + Revision
  Go through 12-month current affairs (one compilation)
  Revise NCERT notes + standard book notes
  Start previous year questions (2011-2024)

MONTH 7-8: Test series + weak areas
  Join mock test series (Vision IAS or Insights)
  Analyze each test: where did you go wrong?
  Focus on weak subjects identified in mocks
  Final revision of notes
