A candidate scores 48 marks. For this session, Mq (qualifying marks) = 30 and Mt (mean of top 0.1%) = 70. Given:  M = 48, Mq = 30, Mt = 70, Sq = 350, St = 900

  = 350 + 550 x (18/40)
  = 350 + 550 x 0.45

average of 70) receives a GATE score of 597.5 -- a qualified,
middling score, meaningfully below 900, reflecting real distance
from the very top performers even though this candidate cleared
qualification comfortably.
