What to Know Before Starting This Guide
This is the "job listing" page for the VLSI academy, including an important correction to a common assumption (there is no separate "GATE VLSI" paper) — the prerequisites are awareness of what this academy covers, not deep mastery of every technology yet.
Required (Must Have)
1. At Least a Working Overview of the Other Six Technologies
•You don't need to have completed every technology in this academy, but Overview's framing (mapping each technology to specific GATE EC sections and career pathways) assumes you recognize the names and rough content of Digital Logic Fundamentals, HDL, RTL Design, Functional Verification, Physical Design, and Analog/Mixed-Signal, even if you haven't mastered each one yet
2. Basic Arithmetic (for the Scoring Calculations)
•Overview's GATE EC scoring example (three different marking schemes across MCQ, MSQ, and NAT question types) is arithmetic, not advanced math — comfortable fraction calculation across multiple, genuinely different penalty rules in the same exam is what's actually being tested here
Nice to Have (Speeds Up Learning)
Clarity on Your Own Target (Private Industry vs. Fab/Manufacturing vs. Higher Study)
This guide's three pathways (private semiconductor industry, manufacturing/fab roles, GATE EC-based higher study) have genuinely different preparation strategies — having at least a tentative sense of which you're aiming for makes the material more actionable, though the guide is written to be useful for exploring all three.
Any Programming/Scripting Experience
Installation sets up a small Python-based GATE EC scoring calculator — prior scripting experience in any language speeds this up.
What You Do NOT Need
•A completed engineering degree or current student status — this guide is useful for planning at any stage
•Prior GATE or exam experience — Overview and Fundamentals introduce the exam format from zero, including correcting the specific "GATE VLSI" misconception directly
•Specific knowledge of current company names, fab timelines, or hiring-hub statistics going in — this guide, and its explicit volatility tagging, exists precisely so you don't need to already know this before arriving

•Overview + Fundamentals: 1 day (this is a reference/planning guide, not a technical skills guide)
•Ongoing: real GATE EC preparation is a multi-month undertaking well beyond this guide's own scope — this guide orients you toward what to prepare for and which pathway fits, not a substitute for that preparation
